We are experienced in treating women of all ages, for a wide range of conditions, including:

Pelvic Floor Muscle Weakness

Many women (and men) have pelvic floor muscle weakness, for a variety of reasons, including pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. Our continence and women’s health physiotherapists can assess your pelvic floor muscle strength and give you a tailored exercise program to get these important muscles functioning at their best.

Urinary Incontinence

Did you know that one in three women will suffer from bladder weakness (incontinence) during their lifetime? Consequently this common and embarrassing condition can be successfully treated by a physiotherapist specialising in continence and women’s health.

Overactive Bladder

The symptoms of an overactive bladder include needing to pass urine frequently and urgently. Because of these symptoms this can also result in urinary leakage when you don’t “make it” on time. Overactive bladder symptoms respond very well to specialist physiotherapy treatment.

Bladder, bowel and uterine prolapse are very common conditions, especially in women who have had children. The symptoms can include heaviness in the vagina, and feeling or seeing a lump or bulge in the vagina. By improving the strength of your pelvic floor muscles, prolapse can be successfully treated under the guidance of your physiotherapist.

Painful Sexual Intercourse

Dyspareunia (painful sexual intercourse) can be caused by a number of factors, including overactive or tight pelvic floor muscles, scar tissue after vaginal childbirth, and hormonal changes through your different life phases. Your continence and women’s health physiotherapist can assess and treat the factors causing your pain, and work with you to resolve the problem.

These are conditions in which sufferers have moderate to severe pain and/or spasms in the vulval/vaginal area. Your continence and women’s health physiotherapist can help you by carrying out a thorough assessment of your condition, and will work with you to address and treat the causes of your pain or discomfort.

Bowel Issues (incontinence Or Constipation)

Constipation is a common problem and is one of the main factors contributing to pelvic floor weakness and prolapse. Bowel incontinence is estimated to affect 5–10% of the population. A physiotherapist specialising in continence and women’s health can treat both constipation and incontinence, in men and women.

Blocked Milk Ducts/mastitis

Physiotherapists use ultrasound treatment for blocked milk ducts and mastitis in breastfeeding mothers. Therefore proactive treatment can help to resolve these painful conditions quickly, and prevent more serious infection and pain.

Wound Healing (post-birth & post-surgery)

Our mobile continence and women’s health physiotherapists are equipped to provide low-level laser therapy (LLLT) for patients at home. LLLT is a medical procedure used to treat pain and speed up wound healing at a cellular level. This treatment can be used on surgical wounds, stitches, and perineal tearing from childbirth, and to accelerate the healing of cracked nipples for breastfeeding mothers.
