Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is client focused and uses ongoing assessments and observations to help you determine what is important to you in life and identify any current issues that may be preventing you from truly engaging in what is meaningful and purposeful to you.

Occupational Therapists are skilled health professionals who work with a variety of individuals, families and communities to promote and enable participation and engagement in occupations. We advocate for the health and wellbeing of people and provide sound education based on clinical knowledge.

Occupations of everyday life can include:

  • Activities of daily living: Self-care, dressing
  • Household and community: Driving, home maintenance, shopping
  • Social participation: interaction within social groups
  • Leisure activities: hobbies
  • Work: (paid or unpaid)

We can assess and modify the environment and prescribe assistive devices and technology and refer.

Our specific services within Life Ready include:

  • Home assessments: assessing the suitability of the physical and social environment of an individual with a condition whether physical or mental and recommending modifications.
  • Home modifications: for example the installation of ramps and railings
  • Return to work programs: Injury rehabilitation and return to work programs.
  • Task analysis and workplace assessments
  • Aged care: falls prevention, rehabilitation, re-integrate into social activities, changes to the workplace or home, educate on available resources and management strategies for particular illness relating to aging, planning for change of roles when transitioning into retirement
  • Ergonomics
  • Assistance devices, such as:
    • Kitchen: Ucello kettle, one-touch jar opener
    • Self-Care: dress-stick, long-reach handled brush, shower commode
    • Lounge room: pressure care cushion, electric recliner chair
    • Memory: automatic alerts, orientation clock
